The Prisoner

**Warning, If you get uncomfortable talking about A women's time of the month, do not read further, however it is about the dog, so its not to bad, just thought I should warn you first**

For those of you who don't have facebook, you probably don't know what I recently posted. My lovely little Roxy girl is in heat. Fun day in the Irish home I tell you what! This is only the fourth time she's been in heat, (she is now a little over 2 years old) Also, for those of you who don't know, dogs only go into heat about every 6 months and it lasts, if not a full month, 3 weeks, and sense her last heat was last March, its perfectly fitting that she starts now. (This may vary with other dogs, all I know is Roxy's cycle)
"Why don't you just get her a pad like a regular women's menstruation" You may ask. Don't think we haven't. Pets Mart does carry a line of doggie diapers for such an occasion. But as we've discovered, like everything else, when it says "Large Dog" it means any dog smaller then Roxy. Apparently Labs and dog breeds larger then our Baby girl are Ex-Large, and as far as I can tell they don't make Ex-Large diapers for dogs, or Ex-Large costumes/clothes for them either. (Which Joey is eternally grateful for, He'll only go so far as tying a bandanna around her neck, but at least its Pink!) Long story short, to small, doesn't fit. So that doesn't work.

We have also tried a pair of Joey's briefs (the ones he works out in that I want to cut up and throw away anyway) and cut a hole in the back for her tail and put one of my pads on it. That also didn't work and ended up falling off (or yanked off by an unhappy puppy)and leaving blood all over the carpet.
We are running out of ideas, hence the title of the this post. We have figured out that it we lock Roxy up in a tiled area it is easier to clean up, but the bathroom is to small so she is now imprisoned in the kitchen. Except in the mornings when she's put out on the back porch while it is still cool enough for her to be out there. When it gets hot we bring her in, and she's grateful for the cool tile! Win, Win, Win. It does mean mopping the floor about seven times a day, but its soooo much better then off the carpet.
Yes she's trying to get out, I just laughed at her and took a picture, oh the poor future I see for my children.

I don't know how many of you know this, but female dogs are just as moody as female humans when they're on the rag. She's sulky and whiny, well more whiny then usual; she's also extremely lethargic too, not that dogs don't sleep most of the day anyway. She looks so sad in this picture. Don't worry, along with laughing at her misery I give her a treat about every 15-30 minutes. She's a spoiled doggie and will remain so until she's dethroned by our first baby, who knows when that'll be. Until that day she's our princess and we'll keep her!

Do not worry, we did the same with Izzie the first time she went in heat. We did keep her in the bathroom because she is smaller and then we tried to block her into the kitch but it just didn't work as well. I love your set up and just wish I would have thought of that. I love the one of her trying to get out though. It looks like she could really do it! And to be honest, I doubt she'll be fully dethroned by your firstborn, but she'll definately have more competition.

\o/ two male pets and a spayed female. I've NEVER had to deal with a dog in heat and hopefully I wont have to.

I don't think Dagger is to sad about it she has Cloud for her baby and we're not going to sell him even though Grant dreams about it.

Nice set up though I too like the picture of her trying to escape.

She's probably moody because she's spending her time in the kitchen. ;)

Why don't you just get her spayed? Are you planning on breeding her or something?
